2.4 Correspondence 2.41 Correspondence – Letters Sent This section includes items dating from January 1953 to December 1957 measuring 4 ½ feet. The items collected in this section include copies of letter sent by Bernard Shanley during his tenure at the White House. (Bernard Shanley named these letters chronological correspondence files). 2.42 Correspondence – Alphabetical files This section includes items dating from 1953 to 1957 measuring 3 feet. The items collected in this section include copies of letters sent by Bernard Shanley (duplicated in 2.41 above) with original letters received during his tenure at the White House. Letter are ordered alphabetically by author or individual reference. This series contains correspondence with Richard Nixon, J. Edgar Hoover, Warren Burger, John Foster Dulles, Sen. Clifford Case (R-NJ), New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Arthur T. Vanderbilt, Seton Hall University President John McNulty, and U.S. ambassadors, local New Jersey politicians and businessmen on subject concerning local and national politics, Republican policy and routine duties as a White House assistant. Series includes congratulatory letters in reference to Bernard Shanley’s appointment as Counsel to the President (January – February, 1953) (sixteen file folders).
