Scope and Contents

This series includes material related to Brendan Byrne's campaign for governor of New Jersey in 1973. These materials include appearance invitations and correspondence, financing and contributions, issue and research files (including position papers on a variety of topics such as abortion, the environment, education, crime, and taxes), public statements and releases, and information on Byrne's Republican opponent, Charles Sandman.

During preliminary processing, the materials were grouped into categories: Invitations (which includes confirmations and rejections), Financing (including contributions, expenditures, fundraising, and checks), Research Files (which includes research on campaign and political issues, information on Charles Sandman, political reports, and advertising), and Public Statements (including press releases and correspondence). These categories are not exhaustive and may be modified or added to as processing continues.
