Presidents, Vice Presidents, and National Conventions, 1956-1992, undated
Scope and Contents
This series includes images of Presidents of the United States, Vice-Presidents of the United States, national political party conventions, and figures from the national political scene, particularly from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon feature prominently, while Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelet, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton each have several images. Presidents Gerald Ford, Herbert Hoover, and Woodrow Wilson are represented with one file each. Vice-President Hubert Humphrey is well-represented, while Vice-President Dan Quayle and Vice-Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro have one file each. Ambassador to the United Nations Adlai Stevenson is in several images. The 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago has many images, while the 1992 Democratic National Convention, the 1964 Republican National Convention in San Francisco, and the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami have several images each.
These images may have been photographed by Ace Alagna or may have been photographed by staff photographers of the Italian Tribune. Earlier images may be more likely to have taken by Ace Alagna; any images featuring Ace Alagna were likely taken by staff photographers. The images are arranged alphabetically by the last name of the individual prominently featured, and descriptions were transcribed from original housing.
Images are described at the file level: each file contains a group of images and indicates how many images are in that group. Many images have been scanned; these images have been assigned individual numbers, listed as "Image" with a span of numbers. Images that were not scanned are listed as "Folder" and have one number for the entire file, with an E or SG in the number.
