Scope and Contents note
This subseries includes photographs, primarily 8"x10" color photographic prints, of Donald M. Payne with a variety of groups and individuals. Noted persons and groups depicted in the images include politicians and public officials such as President Bill Clinton, President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Representative Nancy Pelosi, President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak, President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Anon; celebrities and athletes such as Lawrence Fishburn, Mia Farrow, Tubby Smith, and Bono; groups from schools and organizations such as Presidential Classroom participants, students from New Jersey universities including Seton Hall University and Rutgers University, and several high schools and elementary schools in and outside New Jersey; and other notable public figures such as Desmond Tutu, Dr. Jane Goodall, and N.J. astronaut Scott Kelly, among many others.
The majority of the images were taken by the Office of Photography, U.S. House of Representatives, on official business, and most of these images depict Congressman Payne meeting with groups or individuals in his office or outside the Capitol Building. These images are usually accompanied by a receipt for the order submitted to the Office of Photography for the prints.
Also included in this series are images from other sources, as well as unidentified images from Congressman Payne's office and from trips abroad, including an undated trip to Africa.
