Board of Trustees of Seton Hall University records

 Collection
Identifier: SHU-0001

Scope and Contents

This collection contains meeting minutes, correspondence, annual reports, and bylaws from Seton Hall University's Board of Trustees. Meeting minutes of the Board's Finance Committee and Student Affairs Committee are also included, in addition to the Fiance Committee's annual reports. Also included are meeting minutes of the Board of Regents.

Due to overlapping membership with the Board of Regents and an increase in the number of joint meetings between the two Boards beginning around 1980, some meeting minutes were combined in bound volumes.

Historical Note

The Board of Trustees stand in the stead of the original incorporators of Seton Hall College. They maintain the University's identity as a Catholic institution of higher learning. Additionally, the Board of Trustees elects the members of the Board of Regents and has the sole power to sell and buy real estate for the University.

There are 16 members of the Board of Trustees with the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Newark serving as the President. Other permanent members include: the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Newark; the President of the University; the University’s Minister to the Priest Community; the Rector/Dean of the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology; the Chair of the Board of Regents; the Vice Chair of the Board of Regents; and the Secretary of the Board of Regents. Of the eight appointed members, three must be lay members of the Board of Regents.

Meetings are held three times a year, including the annual meeting, within 30 days of the meeting of the Board Regents.
