Biographical / Historical
The Office of Student Affairs, now called the Division of Student Services, oversees planning, coordinating, supervising, appraising all student services and activities outside of academics.
The Office of Student Affairs traditionally oversees Housing and Residence Life, Health Services, Student Activities, Career Services, Counselling Services, Public Safety and Security, and Athletics and Recreation. For several years in the late 1980s, this office also oversaw Campus Ministry, now a separate office reporting to the President of the University. During the 2000s, this office included Enrollment Services.
In the 1980s, Student Affairs was overseen by the Vice-President of Student Affairs, who reported to the Chancellor of the University. From 1987-1997, the head of this office had the title Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs. In 1997, adminstrative changes led to the title changing back to Vice-President for Student Affairs and reporting to the President of the University. Starting in 2002, this office reported to the Executive Vice-President for Administration, and in 2011, was re-formed into the Division of Student Services, reporting to the Office of the Provost.
