Robert D. Spencer Legal Notebook, 1834-1870
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a single notebook containing handwritten notes dating from 1834 to 1870 by law reporter Robert D. Spencer and others. The name Robert D. Spencer is embossed on the spine of the notebook, and the majority of its content seems to be produced by him. Robert D. Spencer died in 1855, but the entries continue in a different hand until 1870. It is unclear who wrote the later notes. There is an index at the back of the notebook that covers the entries from 1834 to 1850. This collection will be useful to researchers interested in law reporting and 19th century New Jersey law.
