Biographical / Historical

George A. Clyde was born 1 January 1917 in Jersey City, the youngest of eleven siblings. He attended Seton Hall University and Immaculate Concpetion Seminary in New Jersey before going on to the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was ordained 30 May 1942 in the Archdiocese of Newark and served as a parish priest at Our Lady of Libera in West New York, Holy Family in Union City, Sacred Heart in Haworth, St. Catherine of Siena in Hillside, St. John the Apostle in Linden, St. Anne in Garwood, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scotch Plains, and St. Luke's in Tom's River. Fr. Clyde was known for administering especially to married couples. Fr. Clyde died 20 October 2003 of respiratory and heart problems at age 86.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Materials were transferred to the Archives and Special Collections Center from the Archdiocese of Newark by James Whelan in May 2007. Accession number 2007.05.21.GC.
