Scope and Contents

This collection includes the personal papers of Gloria Schneider pertaining to her volunteer work for several church and civic organizations. The bulk of materials relate to Schneider's tenure as board member of the Mount Carmel Guild of the Archdiocese of Newark, with smaller series related to her involvement with the Newark Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, Msgr. Kirk Chaplain's Aid Association, and the Bergen County Office on Aging. These records offer insight into the volunteer efforts of the organizations represented within, which focused on providing aid to residents of Newark and Bergen County.

Biographical / Historical

Gloria Schneider, born Gloria Mae Pollock, was born in 1926 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She married Carl Peter Schneider in 1950, and they spent 23 years living in New Jersey before moving back to Pennsylvania. Schneider volunteered for several church and cultural organizations throughout her life, both in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. For the Mount Carmel Guild of the Archdiocese of Newark, she served as board member, President of Bergen County, and Archdiocesan President. She also served as Chair of the Social Action Committee for the Newark Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, President of the Msgr. Kirk Chaplains' Aid Association, and as a member of the Advisory Council for the Bergen County Office on Aging. Schneider died in 2017.

Some materials were loose, which were grouped together topically for this collection. Each series within this finding aid has been arranged alphabetically or chronologically to aid in research.
