This small collection consists of a handwritten letter by French composer, organist, conductor and pianist Camille Saint-Saëns and a photograph portrait of Saint-Saëns. The letter is dated December 22, 1917 and it is unclear to whom it is addressed. The French letter has not yet been translated, therefore the subject matter is presently unknown.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 20, 1912, Edward H. Flannery was ordained priest for the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island in 1937. Father Flannery served as associate director of the Institute of Jewish-Christian Studies at Seton Hall University (1965-67) and was president of the National Christian Leadership Conference for Israel (1985-88). Joseph Francis was ordained as a priest in 1950 and became the fourth African American Roman Catholic bishop in the country, and the first ordained in the Northeast. Bishop Francis was a pioneering figure in the discussion of race and religion. The materials in this collection span the years between 1934 and 1997, and includes much of Bishop Francis' own writings for his speeches and sermons.
